Convertible SUVs are at lot of fun because you can ride around over terrain that your BMW sports car convertible can’t. The only issue about convertible SUVs is that there are not very many to choose from. In fact, there are only about two manufactures that make a convertible SUV available to purchase new today.
The best convertible SUV is the Land Rover Defender 90. This SUV not only the best looking but the most capable SUV and most expensive.
The Defender 90 is on of the many veriations in the Land Rover Defender series of vehicles. Land Rover makes a few similar models that can be configured in many different ways. For example you can get a truck with a single cab or double cab and you can upgrade to the big mud slinging Defender 110 wagon that can seat up to 7 passengers. Now of course we got a little of course here and these are not SUV convertibles, only the special Defender 90 is.
The Land Rover Defender series of vehicles are very rugged and made for off roading and are very popular with off road safaris and make one of the best and most reliable off road jungle and desert vehicles that can go anywhere and still ride nice and look great at any location.
Next is the classic Jeep Wrangler SUV convertible. It comes in a 2 door model and now a 4 door model so you can take the entire family out on a nice off road adventure. The 4 door version offers more space and comfort with some nice safety features and ok fuel economy.
The Jeep Wrangler is the only four-door convertible suv on the market today and is great for those family men who needed the extra space that the 2 door wrangler couldn’t give. If provides room for up to 5 adults and has more cargo storage than any other Jeep.
The Jeep can be used as a daily driver, carry more gear and yet has the capability to climb off road and carry it’s own weight with the the best 2 door SUVs available.
One of the great things about the 4 door jeep is the front hinge doors that can open 90 degrees. You can also fold down the rear seats or do a 60/40 split.
Don’t feel like running around in the winter with a jeep soft top? No problem, there is a beautiful three piece modular hardtop that can be removed in well under 1 minute and 2 parts can be stored in the jeep.
Providing armor for the Jeep Wrangler underbody components are three skid plates protecting the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan.
In addition, new steering and suspension geometry provides precise ride and handling characteristics, while new sound-deadening techniques reduce cabin noise by more than 20 per cent.
Nissan Murano Cabriolet
The new Nissan Murano convertible is coming soon. It is the first crossover convertible and is a two door suv convertible. Its AWD and is going to be a very premium 5 passenger vehicle that has a new and very unique look to it. It features heated steering wheel, seats and mirrors with Nissan’s navigation system and push button start.
The starting price is not cheap though, the Nissan Murano convertible starts at $46,000.
Custom Convertible SUVs
Now, you can of course customize any SUV into a convertible SUV, but that is not cheap. In fact if you want to chop off the top of the Toyota FJ Cruiser it will cost you at least $10,000. You’d have one unique SUV though.
Also, there is a soft top conversion for the Mighty Hummer that looks like the picture below. It would make a great convertible SUV.
